COOKEVILLE — Five players and two coaches represented local high school football teams in Friday’s Toyota East-West All-Star Classic at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium. The West squad, with White House High’s Jeff Porter as head coach and Pope John Paul II High’s Jerry Joslin as defensive coordinator – defeated the East team 55-39.
All of the Sumner County participants played for the West squad. Pope John Paul II High tight end Austin Hayes rotated into the game, assisting an offensive line that helped Ramadi Warren (Whitehaven) rush for 272 yards and three TDs on 38 carries. The West team collectively rushed for 348 yards and five touchdowns on 59 carries in the victory.
The Knights’ Gunnar Scholato registered five tackles (one solo, four assists) and a pass breakup. White House High’s Taylor Wood had three tackles (two solo, one assist) and also recovered an onside kick attempt…READ MORE
