“We’ve had a good summer so far,” said head coach Jeff Porter. “No one has been injured and that is concern number one in the off-season. We have to just keep getting better each day and I think we will be fine.”
On July 20, White House traveled to Davidson Academy to participate in a four team play day.
“It was a really good opportunity to go against three well coached teams,” added Porter. “Going against East Robertson, Davidson Academy and Whites Creek will help us a lot this year.
“I think East will be much improved this year,” continued Porter. “I really think the kids are doing a good job of buying into what Chad is doing up there.”
New East Robertson coach Chad Broadrick is a former defensive coach for the Blue Devils and Porter’s close friend.
“I think Chad is going to do good things at East,” stated Porter. “He is a good football coach and I think he has the kids going in the right direction. I will not be surprised to see him do really well there.”
The Blue Devils finally put on the pads for the first time this summer and spent the first week going over an often over-looked component of the game.
“The first two days were spent on special teams,” said Porter. “I think a lot of coaches kind of forget about that end and that’s what gets them beat. Special teams play a vital role. Good teams buy into special teams.”
The Blue Devils will continue practicing in the morning to avoid the heat.
