CROSS PLAINS – Fairview scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and held off a final second rally by White House for a 13-10 at soggy East Robertson High School.
Logan Trimmer had two chances at a game-tying 43-yard field goal in the final seconds after the first was blown dead on a clock malfunction, but both kicks including the one that counted sailed wide left on a wet field into the scoreboard end.
Jake White recovered at Fairview fumble at the 41 with 35 seconds left to give the Blue Devils a chance.
Hunter Brown slung a 40-yard touchdown pass to Seth Bumbalough with 3:46 left in the left corner and Trimmer hit the PAT to make it 13-10.
After Trimmer hit a field goal on the opening drive for a 3-0 lead, Fairview broke it open on big plays. First it was a defensive interception on a deep ball by Brown and then on the next play a 61-yard touchdown. The PAT was good for a 7-3 lead.
Then a 38-yard pass set up a one yard run for the fullback and a 13-3 edge but the kick bounced left and no good.
White House rallied but fell by three.
Brian Mullins had an INT return for 52 yards overturned by a pass interference penalty, and White recovered the fumble for White House. Ricky Townsend provided the highlight of the night with a devastating hit on third down to set up the fumble on the next play.
This is the third straight year White House has played Fairview in the Robertson County Jamboree and the Devils open at home next Friday against White House Heritage.
