White House (0-2, 0-0) vs. Portland (0-2, 0-0)
The always-heated rivalry between White House and Portland will again commence this Friday evening at Portland High School in what should be a sellout game for both schools.
This is one of those games where you throw the records, the stats and everything else out the window because it simply does not matter.
The desire to win, the desire to compete and the overall dislike for the other school will fuel each squad as both teams look to start a winning streak and prove who they really are.
You look at both teams and survey every position group and you can say, well… Quarterback is about the same, running backs are just as good, offensive lines match up well, defensive line is a push, linebackers are even, etc. So where will the breaks be made? Who will make them?
Both coaches understand the role of special teams. Both have made improvements so far this season. Will the kicking game be the difference? Who will win the turnover battle? Who will have the guts to step up and make a play for their team when needed? All those questions will eventually be answered.
Until then, I’m going with Porter and the Blue Devils.
