The White House Blue Devils got the crowd on its feet on the opening play of the night ripping off an 85-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff on their way to a 53-16 victory over the Colts from Glencliff on Homecoming Friday night. Junior Will Frazer capped off the drive converting on a two-point conversion jumping out to an 8-0 lead before the first offensive possession.

The crowd barely had a chance to sit back down before having to jump up again as White House recovered a pooch kickoff by Jacob Harper. Will Frazer dove onto the loose ball giving the Blue Devils great field position for their first offensive possession. After pushing the ball to the seven-yard line, two penalties drove the Devils back to the 17-yard line where they faced fourth-and-goal. Junior quarterback Andrew Nixon managed to avoid the Colt pass rush long enough to drop a dime to senior Brett Drake in the end zone. Harper added the point after and White House was up 15-0 before Glencliff even had their first offensive possession.

Glencliff got started on their first possession on their own 38. Three straight plays made little progress and the Colts tried to stop the Blue Devil momentum by going for it on fourth-and-eight. Quarterback Varon Solano was able to find Anthony Williams along the sideline, but Williams was bound up and brought down short of the sticks turning the ball over to the Devils.

The Blue Devils had one of their few miscues of the night on their third drive as Colt defensive back was able to get a few fingers on a Nixon pass and tip it to himself for an interception on the Colt ten. The Colt offense was unable to capitalize on the take away going three-and-out. The Glencliff punt from deep in their own territory gave the Blue Devils great field position starting their next drive from the Colt 34-yard line.

White House mercilessly pounded the ball into the Colt defensive line, moving the ball down a short field in large chunks. The drive was capped off by a one-yard sneak from Nixon. Harper’s point after gave White House a 22-0 lead. Glencliff was unable to move the ball, and quickly gave the ball back to the Blue Devil on downs. The quarter ended with a 20-yard Nixon pass to Drake once again to end the quarter with a 29-0 advantage.

The Colts began their next drive on their own 19. They were again stuffed on three straight plays and the Colts were forced to punt. The Blue Devils came up with another huge special teams play as Tyler McMurty busted through the line to block the punt. White House recovered and only needed five yards to put another score on the board. Junior tailback Keyvan Dickerson plunged into the end zone from one-yard out to put the Blue Devils on top 36-0.

The Blue Devil defense provided the next big play on the following drive. Cameron Casanova and Frazer teamed up to knock the ball loose from the Colt ball carrier, and both had the presence of mind to dive onto the loose ball. White House once again took over deep in Colt territory starting their next drive on the Glencliff 30-yard line. Cassanova also provided the big offensive play exploding for a 24-yard touchdown run to put the Blue Devils up by a score of 43-0.

The Colts once again had trouble covering a pooch kick, and Bumbalough was able to fall on the ball and give the Blue Devils another extra possession on the Colt 32. Will Blackburn would add to the first-half scoring deluge by plunging in from one-yard out to put the Devils on top 50-0 at the half.

The Blue Devils put many of their younger players into the game in the second half. Harper connected on a 28-yard field goal on the first Blue Devil possession of the second half pushing the score out to a 53-0 margin.

The Colts started the fourth quarter on their own 29, but managed to put together a series of first downs to cross over into White House territory. Colt quarterback D’Andre Mumphrey was abl e to connect with Rishad Petrus on a 31-yard touchdown pass to give the Colts some life. Mumphrey was also able to get into the end zone for a two-point conversion to tighten the score up a bit 53-8. Another 43-yard pass to Petrus late in the fourth quarter gave the game its final score 53-16.

Facing short fields for most of the night, the Blue Devils put up only 282 yards while scoring 53 points. Ten different Blue Devils got carries in the game with a team average of 6.6 yards per carry. Nixon finished the game 5-8 with two touchdowns and an interception.

White House is on a bye next week before heading on the road for the first time this season travelling to Hunters Lane in two weeks.
