MURFREESBORO — The White House Lady Devils will open their third appearance in the Class AA State Soccer Tournament Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against Seymour.
The Lady Devils (14-4-3) are the Region 5-AA and District 9-AA champions and won the sectional match Saturday night over Giles County, 5-1. Seymour (16-4) defeated Knox Central, 3-2, on Saturday in the sectional match.
Wednesday’s quarterfinal matchup will take place at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro on field 3. The winner will advance to play the winner of East Hamilton (15-3-1) and Lexington (16-6) in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The loser will end their season in the single elimination tournament.
If the Lady Devils advanced to the state championship game, it would be Saturday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m.
White House is 2-2 in previous state tournament appearances in 2012 and 2016. The Lady Devils are 2-0 in the first round and 0-2 in the second round and have never advanced to the finals.
Since starting the season 0-4-1, White House is unbeaten in its last 16 games. The Lady Devils have won 10 straight, and are 14-0-2 with a tie against Beech and CPA in the regular season. To start the year, White House lost to Station Camp and Independence, then went 0-2-1 in the Smoky Mountain Cup against tough competition.
White House has outscored its opponents 27-6 in five postseason contests.
Seymour won the District 2-AA championship, but fell 8-0 to Greeneville in the Region 1-AA finals. They bounced back with a 3-2 win to upset Knox Central in the sectional final.
All of Seymour’s losses are to ranked teams except for a 4-3 loss to McGavock in the Smoky Mountain Cup. White House has three losses to ranked teams and one loss to an out-of-state squad from Kentucky.
Seymour has only been in the state tournament once and is 0-1 with a quarterfinal loss in 2008.
Previous State Tournaments:
2016 – White House defeated Jackson Christian, 3-0 in the quarterfinals and lost to eventual state-champion Greeneville, 5-1, in the semifinals.
2013 – White House defeated Chattanooga Notre Dame, 2-1 in the quarterfinals, and lost to Christian Academy of Knoxville, 2-0 in the semifinals.
2008 – Seymour lost to Franklin Road Academy, 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
