WHITE HOUSE – Hannah Crabtree ended her regular season at home with a bang Monday night, as the eighth grader led the way with nine points and 11 rebounds for the White House Lady Devils in a 25-16 victory over Knox Doss-Drakes Creek.
White House built an early 11-1 lead as the Lady Mustangs couldn’t find the basket and got three starters in foul trouble, but despite the struggle, Knox Doss drew within one at 16-15 with four minutes to go.
Audrey White found Chloe Hart on a fast break and Crabtree continued to battle her way to the free-throw line. But with both team’s starting point guards fouling out of the game, including Faithe Johnstone on a tough night for the Lady Devils, White House got big contributions from Carmen Perkins and Avery Droz off the bench.
Perkins scored five, Droz added four, Hart three, Johnstone two and White two. But the biggest contribution came from Johnstone, Droz, Perkins and Sydney Richardson who handled the ball over and over around the perimeter against a stingy Knox Doss defense that got a hand on every pass.
Katie Dugger led the Mustangs with 10 and Tessa Myers scored four, but White House held Amaya Hutchison scoreless and a drive to the basket by Hart in the fourth quarter fouled her out of the game.
Knox Doss fell to 6-8, but still finished ahead of White House in the regular season tournament standings that were locked in a week ago. The number four seed Mustangs will have to face White House again on Saturday at 4:40 p.m. as the fifth-seeded Lady Devils earned a rematch in the conference tournament. Games are at Shafer Middle School.
The winner of that game will face top-seeded and undefeated Hunter on Tuesday, unless the Lady Bucs suffer a monumental upset by a lower seed.
The White House boys suffered an opposite fate on Monday, losing 60-16 to top-seeded Knox Doss as the Mustangs came out of the gate to a 24-2 lead.
White House finished 4-10 and will be the eighth seed Thursday night at Shafer in the conference tournament. The Blue Devils face ninth-seeded Portland West at 7:40 p.m. If White House wins, they will rematch with Knox Doss on Saturday at 6 p.m.
