Gov. Bill Lee will issue Executive Order No. 55 to allow for contact sports to resume, provided they follow the requirements of TSSAA.
As soon as the governor signs the order, football teams have the approval of TSSAA to begin practicing with full contact, again following the organization’s guidelines set forth last week, Assistant Executive Director Matthew Gillespie confirmed Thursday.
That also includes that teams must have had been acclimated to heat with two days of practice in helmets and three more in helmets and shoulder pads.
The order is part of the “Safe Reopening Plan for Tennessee Schools,” which was announced Tuesday afternoon.
Football and girls soccer have not been able to have practices with contact under an executive order by Lee that was extended to Aug. 29.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
