Speech: Three of Top Four Students in TN from WHHS

Heading into the 2020-21 academic year, the White House High School speech team has three of the top four returning students in the state of Tennessee, including slots 1, 2 and 4.

Seniors Rebekah Langford (1st), Madison Freeman (2nd) and Danielle Williams (4th) are ranked, giving the Blue Devils 60 percent of the top five state rankings.

State points are calculated by overall competitions, including the number of total categories and the success within those events.

Langford and Freeman were named 2020 National Speech and Debate All-Americans and national qualifiers, and both finished successfully in their respective events at the virtual national competition in June. Langford is a two-time national qualifier, and Freeman is a one-time national qualifier and defending state champion in Tennessee. The 2020 state competitions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Williams was a national qualifier as a sophomore along with Langford.

The speech team is coached by Emily Higdon.
