Story-Photos-Video: Lady Devils Throttle Commandos, 3-0

By Kris Freeman for White House High School

WHITE HOUSE – The Lady Devils played a solid game on senior night and took out Hendersonville in three straight sets at White House High School Monday.

On the final home game of the regular season for Ally Grace Sloan and Phebe Barlow, White House jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first set and led until the middle of the second, when Hendersonville briefly took a one point lead at 15-14. But White House stormed back to take the second set 25-20, after completing a 25-10 dominating to start to the first.

Caleigh Anderson served out the first set as White House scored the final six points, then the Lady Devils were even more focused to close the second. Lacey Escue keyed blocks in the middle and Sloan put the Commandos away late with a fake setup second ball that tipped slowly over the net untouched.

In the third, Hendersonville jumped out to a 6-2 lead when junior Megan Thompson served White House to seven straight points, the key a huge rally at 7-6 when the Lady Devils desperately saved a ball from the right side and Justine Lowe pounded the kill in the middle of the court. The volley included 26 touches, but ended when Sloan fired a shot from the right side of the net and Hendersonville dug out the block at the fingertips. But when the ball came back to the Blue Devils, Thompson tipped to Olivia Davidson near the middle of the net and Lowe jumped from the left side and barreled home the winner in the middle of the Commandos defense.

Hendersonville kept it close when Lowe ran to the scorers table to left-hand a return, but the Commandos fired right back and White House hit the net to make it 19-17.

The Blue Devils then went six straight to close the match after another long rally on defense ended as Hendersonville hit the net. Thompson served out the match, and Lowe drilled a potential winner that the Lady Commandos got hands on but ultimately left into the middle of the net on the second ball. White House finished with a 25-17 final in the third.

The Lady Devils also got key varsity contributions from Hannah Meador and Izzy Parks.

White House finishes the regular season tomorrow at Springfield High School and then will host the district tournament next week.
