WHITE HOUSE – In a tournament dominated by three set sweeps, the Macon County Tigers won the thriller of the night Thursday in a five-set upset of two-seeded White House Heritage in the District 11-AA Tournament semifinals.
Macon County led 14-10 in the final set when the Lady Patriots fired off three points in a row to close the gap to 14-13, but the Tigerettes took the match with a defensive point to close it out.
Macon County won the odd numbered sets 1-3-5, beating Heritage 25-13, 25-23 and 15-13. Heritage took the second and fourth set, 25-16 and 25-22.
The pivotal point of the match came in the third when Heritage led 23-18 and Macon County served out the game with seven points in a row to take a 2-1 set lead.
The intense semifinal set up a showdown with Portland in the championship game which is currently underway at White House High School.
Junior Mackenzie Geer, senior Ashleigh Shores and senior Molly Claire Abell were named to the All-District 11-AA Team from White House Heritage.
