WHITE HOUSE – After starting the season against extremely tough competition from higher classifications, the White House High School soccer team got back into the district on Tuesday and fought tooth and nail for a 4-3 win over Springfield.
Senior Bryson Harper scored twice in the final 10 minutes to tie the game and take the lead, with goals about four minutes apart to put the Blue Devils on top. Sophomore Haden Cooper had the assist on the tying goal.
The frustrating night for White House was the entire game as Springfield took a 1-0 lead before White House tied it on a goal by Lucas McKinney tied. But Springfield took a 3-1 lead into the half with two more goals before the intermission and never scored again as the Devils pitched a second half shutout.
Justin Southall got the second goal for the Devils to bring them within one about halfway through the second half.
White House improved to 2-6 overall but 1-1 in the district after falling to Heritage last week.
The Devils play at Portland Thursday and at Macon County on Friday.
